The world's biggest coal miner, Coal India's 22 mines in Jharkhand are likely to face closure over environmental concerns. The coal miner may have to bear a production loss of up to 40,000 tonne a day if this closure takes place.
R Mohan Das, director (Personnel & Industrial Relations), Coal India, in an interview with CNBC-TV18’s Mitali Mukherjee said that the company has been asked to give clarifications regarding those 22 mines but no closure notice has been issued yet by the Jharkhand state pollution board.

He further said that the company’s volumes for this month and for next month will not be affected due to this (possible) closure order.
